The 6th Chinese Youth Academic Forum Was Held

From November 5 to 6, 2016, the 6th Chinese Youth Academic Forum and the Academic Forum on New media and New Youth: Political Participation and Social Development organized by CYUPS was held in Beijing. More than a hundred experts and scholars from various universities attended the forum, of which there were Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Communication University of China, Fudan University, Xiamen University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Missouri School of Journalism and Shih Hsin University.

The forum aimed to build a platform for academic exchanges on youth research, and to explore the connotation and forms of youth political participation in the era of post-mass communication, the impact of new media on the development and growth of youth and the harmonious relationship between establishing “youth-friendly” communication and youth development.

CYUPS Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee and CYUPS Executive Vice-president Professor Wang Xinqing and Dean of Institute of Journalism and Communication at Chinese Academy of Social Science and Researcher Mr. Tang Xujun attended the opening ceremony and respectively delivered a speech. Deputy Dean of CYUPS Department of Journalism Mr. Luo Ziwen presided over the opening ceremony, at which the Research Center of Social Development and Health Communication initiated by CYUPS School of Journalism was formally established.

Modern ways of communication, especially the popularization of new media, have affected the value judgments and behavior patterns of the youth, presenting new challenges as well as opportunities to youth work and youth research, and this has become a topic of practical significance, which was discussed in the session of keynote speech delivery. For example, Ms. Lu Shizhen, Honorary Dean of CYUPS Youth Research Institute delivered a speech titled Youth Political Participation on the Internet; Professor Chen Lidan from School of Journalism of Renmin University of China delivered a speech titled International Political Discourse Communication; Professor Ma Zhonghong from Phoenix Communication College of Soochow University delivered a speech titled Big Data and Youth Culture Dissemination; Associate Professor Lin Chengyu from Shih Hsin University in Taiwan delivered a speech titled Western Youth Political Participation; and Professor Yossi from Bar-Ilan University delivered a speech titled Health Behavior Research and Policy Making.

A special discussion for academic journal editors was also held during the forum. Editors from high-quality academic journals such as Youth Studies, Radio Broadcasting and Telecasting in China, China Youth Study, Journal of Chinese Youth Social Science, News and Writing and Modern Publishing participate in the discussion and shared their academic achievements.
